What Is Root Canal Treatment?

Root Canal Treatment (also known as endodontic treatment) is a type of treatment used to remove an inflamed or infected pulp – soft tissues located inside of the tooth, under the white enamel and a hard layer called dentin.

What Causes Inflammation Or Infection Of The Pulp?

Several reasons can cause the inflammation or infection of the tooth’s pulp:

  • Faulty dental crowns

  • A chip or crack in the tooth

  • Repeated dental procedures on the tooth

  • Deep decay

It should be noted, that trauma to a tooth can still cause damage to the tooth’s pulp, even if there is no visible damage.

Why Should I Get Root Canal Treatment?

Root Canal Treatment can help you save a natural tooth which provides several advantages:

  • Relieves pain of the tooth with the problematic pulp

  • Feels comfortable

  • Proper chewing capabilities restored

  • Proper biting force distribution

  • Maintains natural look

  • Ensures the protection of other teeth from excessive strain or wear

  • Natural appearance

  • Smile

  • What Happens During The Root Canal Treatment Procedure?

  • During the Root Canal Treatment Procedure, our doctors remove the inflamed or infected pulp from the tooth. The inside of the tooth is then cleaned and disinfected. Afterwards, our dentists will fill and seal the tooth with a material called “gutta-percha”. During the final steps of the procedure a crown or a filling will be provided to ensure protection.

  • How Long Will The Root Canal Treatment Take?

  • On most occasions Root Canal Treatment can be done within 1 or 2 appointments. However, more surgically complicated cases can take a longer time. Our expert dental staff will ensure that these appointments will feel comfortable and leave you with a positive experience.

Are There Any Alternatives To Root Canal Treatment?

Unfortunately, there are no alternatives to Root Canal Treatment other than the removal of the infected or inflamed tooth, however, our doctors highly recommend to save the natural tooth if possible.
