Metal Braces - Orthodontic Treatment

Metal Braces

Metal braces are perhaps the most traditional treatment option for orthodontic treatment. They consist of brackets, elastic bands and an arch wire that connects the brackets. Braces put tension on teeth and slowly pushing them into their desired position.

Metal braces are adjusted every 4 to 6 weeks by the dentist to ensure the best result. Usually braces need to be worn between 1 to 3 years depending on the patient’s orthodontic needs.

To ensure a lasting result, a retainer must be worn after the braces are removed for at least 1 year. A retainer holds the teeth into their new position and ensures that the desirable result remains unchanged.

Clear Braces

Clear Braces (sometimes referred to as Ceramic Braces) are an alternative to traditional metal braces. With brackets and elastics made from tooth-coloured, almost see-through material, a lot of patients choose this orthodontic treatment option as it is less noticeable than metal braces.

In addition to the visual appeal of clear braces, they are also a great option for patients with complex dental cases that can’t be treated using such discreet treatment methods as clear aligner therapy.

On average a patient needs to wear clear braces for 2 years, however, some patients might need less than a year and others may even need as much as 3 years - similarly to metal braces.

Retainers

Retainers are fixtures specifically created for each patient which ensure that the result of orthodontic treatment remains unchanged. They can be removable or fixed. They help hold the newly straightened teeth in place after wearing braces. Retainers are generally made from plastic or some metal wiring.

Usually, they need to be worn for 12 hours a day for the first 6 months following orthodontic treatment. After that, the length can be gradually reduced, but they will often need to be worn for life.

At our clinics, we offer 2 types of retainers – Fixed Retainers and Essix Retainers.

Invisalign

Invisalign is the invisible alternative to metal braces and retainers. A virtually invisible custom-made aligner is made for the patient that slightly shifts your teeth into proper position over time.

Invisalign aligners are made of multilayer SmartTrack® material which gently shifts teeth into proper position.

Over the course of your treatment, you will have to change the aligners regularly for a set of new ones that will keep moving and keep straightening your teeth.

Types of Invisalign Treatment
At our clinics we offer 3 types of Invisalign treatment:

Invisalign i7

Used to make small adjustments to teeth. Quite popular with patients who have previously worn braces and may now be starting to experience teeth moving out of position again.

Invisalign Lite

Ideal for less complicated cases. This Invisalign treatment type has a much shorter treatment duration, but this does not affect the end result.

Invisalign Full

The most popular type of Invisalign treatment. This treatment takes a longer time, but allows the orthodontist to pay even more attention to every detail as the treatment progresses, ensuring a perfect result. It is specially designed to straighten the teeth even in the most complicated situations.
